Stork's Nest Program
A Healthy Beginning for You and Your Baby: The Stork's Nest Program
The Stork's Nest is an incentive program that provides pregnant young women with prenatal and postnatal education, parenting information and necessities for their newborns. In exchange for keeping clinic appointments, practicing healthy behaviors and attending classes during pregnancy, participants earn a cash equivalent that may be used to purchase items they will need for themselves or their babies to start out on the right foot.
The program has three major objectives:
Four (4) hour long sessions will be held at the Virtua Memorial Hospital and class topics may include the importance of prenatal care, what to expect during labor and delivery, breastfeeding, basic infant care and safe sleeping.
Any pregnant woman in Burlington County is eligible to participate, but the program's emphasis is on engaging pregnant women who do not receive regular prenatal care and are at an elevated risk for having a low birth weight baby or premature birth - both potential causes of infant mortality.
